Location:
Everett, Washington
Project Description:
From 1917 to 1974, this 70-acre site was used for
landfill purposes. During the ’80s, millions of used tires were stored there and
caught fire – twice – leaving the site contaminated with a variety of chemicals
and metals. In 1995, Triad Associates began survey work for Black & Veatch Waste
Science to aid in the site grading and surface water control. The site is
currently being prepared for the 2012 construction of a mixed-used urban center.
Beginning in 2008 and again in 2009, the City of
Everett
chose KLB Construction to complete the site surcharge. During the surcharge
process, the site is loaded with fill dirt to compact the underlying soils and
stabilize the site. Triad’s survey crews provided construction staking and
twice-weekly monitoring for both phases of the surcharge project.
