Project Name:
City of Kirkland Vertical Control Survey
Jurisdiction:
City of Kirkland
Services Provided:
Project Management
Surveying
Location:
Kirkland, Washington
Project Description:
Triad Associates’ surveyors worked with the City of
Kirkland to establish NAVD 1988, 2nd Order, 1st Class
elevations on approximately 70 monuments in the city. A comprehensive vertical
control network did not exist within the City of Kirkland until this project was completed. The need
for the project came into focus because: 1.) FEMA is adopting NAVD 88’ as the
vertical datum for their Map Modernization program that will update all the
flood hazard maps in the United States, and 2.) King County and the Cities of
Bellevue and Redmond are using NAVD 88’ as the vertical datum for their vertical
control networks. Using a common vertical datum will facilitate an easier
exchange of utilities and transportation systems data among the neighboring
jurisdictions.
